Far from the enchantment of Disney movies, fairy tales would find their origin about 6000 years ago, all over the world.
First transmitted by word of mouth, fairy tales appeared in the 16th century in Italy, but it was in the 17th century that they were democratized with Charles Perrault’s Les contes de ma mère l’oye. Their popularity increases again in the XVIIIth century with The Tales of 1001 Nights, the tales of the Grimm brothers and the tales of Hans Christian Andersen at the beginning of the XIXth century. Fairy tales are extremely old and have evolved over the centuries, always keeping the particularity of staging stories where the supernatural, magic and characters borrowed from folklore intervene. If they are for centuries intended for children, their origins are much darker. Always borrowed of magic, the enchantment is however less present. There is more violence, torture and cannibalism! What to make children dream beautiful dreams! Tales have always been told to children, we know that tales help children to develop their imagination and to decipher their own emotions, but they remain at least frightening. Parents who abandon their children, bewitched forests, ogres and witches who eat children… It seems more likely to develop psychopathic tendencies! Tales also have a psychoanalytical function and according to Bruno Bettelheim, tales reflect conflicts or anxieties linked to specific stages of development…
